Speech Acts in Text Dialogues: An Analysis of English Textbook Merdeka Belajar for Junior High School

This study aims to investigate the types of speech acts and their functions contained in dialogues English textbook titled "English Mind Second Edition Students' Book Starter Grade VII," which was composed based on implementation Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar. The employed a descriptive qualitative research approach, utilizing text from as primary data source. were analyzed Searle's (1976) act framework. results indicate total 161 (utterances) across all textbook. distribution is follows: assertive accounted for 29.2% (47 instances), directive 24.8% (40 commissive 9.9% (16 expressive 35.4% (57 declaration 0.6% (1 instance). While demonstrates good representation within framework, it should be noted that certain types, specifically declarative acts, not consistently present dialogues. Based these findings, this suggests designers material developers strive authentically incorporate various ensuring authentic interactions natural language usage.
